Wonder of Wonders

You know a plant is hardy if it can survive a beating and have the courage to go on.

Not only can a plant survive Phil's torture, it can survive mine!

Beware the Man with the Clippers

Since the sun still wasn't shining, it was a good day to work in the yard. I decided to use the electric hedger to trim around some bushes in the front. I have seen Phillip with a saw and didn't want to take a chance with the trimmers, so I gave him the clippers to trim a few stray branches from a big tree/bush near the back fence. This is what I ended up with:
Every single beautiful green branch is now in a pile near the road waiting for the truck to haul them away, sniff, sniff. Next time - I will give him hand shears, lol.

Little Purple Pansies

I planted these poor little flowers because our winters are usually mild enough that they flourish. How was I to know we would have a horrible winter. They have fought bravely, I hope they make it through our extremes in weather.
My nandinas should be okay....I think.

In Memory

We bid farewell to Ninnie Nandina this weekend. Her once glorious leaves gone the way of all leaves. We are waiting, however, for we may have a resurrection come spring. (My plants are really good at doing that - survival of the fittest and all that)

Greenthumb?? No, all thumbs.

I love the fall weather because I get very ambitious to do yard work - it lasts for about one week, but that one week can be deadly. While browsing through gardening books at Lowe's I decided I would save money on some backyard landscaping by splitting my beautiful nandinas in the front yard. They have been there for three years and are doing very well - due to the fact that I don't have to water them or care for them in any way. They prefer that I stay out of their way and let them do their thing.

Last Saturday I was brutal. I decided I would do what seemed so simply explained in the gardening book. I would simply dig them up, split them and transplant a few into the backyard. Lo, it was not that simple! After 30 minutes of sweating and struggling, I came away with a meager part of bush. Sadly, and without much hope, I planted it in the back.

As you are all witness of, I think I may have failed. Poor, poor Nandina...........
Sheriff J. Quist needs to ride into town and straighten things out. Where is the law when you need it??
