Plugged

The McEwans have an interesting tradition.  It seems whenever Brian leaves for a trip something major happens - usually it is a child throwing up half the time he is gone.  Last time he went to China the dishwasher stopped working before he even boarded the plane to leave.  By the time he got back, a new one was installed.

And don't forget the time he and Megan left the week for Hawaii - Jospeh developed that infectious boil on his bottom that hurt the entire time they were gone.

With that said, I was more than a little apprehensive when Brian left this morning for Florida.  Especially when I woke up this morning and heard Jack with an awful-sounding bark cough.  Apparently he has that most mornings (allergies?) so I waited for the other shoe to fall......

It fell at 8:15 when the kitchen sink decided it would not drain.  The garbage disposal was running normal but nothing was draining.  Out of the blue.  Just like that.  I think Brian's plane actually took off at 8:05.

Like I said, it is really weird.

That is where GOOGLE came in handy.  After church Megan and I both did our research.  We opted for the easy try first - put ice cubes in the disposal.  That would of been too easy.  It didn't work.

So we went with the second plan - Megan's search turned up this:

Put a cup of baking soda in the drain.  Add a cup of vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes.

Pour in boiling water.

And plunge.  Megan decided to make a store run for a clean plunger.  Neither one of us was fond of the idea of actually using the bathroom plunger.  It was a little difficult for her to get her groove because her 8-month-pregnant belly was in the way, but she plunged liked a trooper.

I was amazed that it actually worked!  We both were.  It was one of the strangest things ever.  Hurrah!
Now, if anyone can tell me how to get my Wii to start reading discs again, I would be super grateful.  Google has not been much help in that area!

Spring Break Begins

I took an extra day off work and Ethan and I are beginning break early!  Off to Utah to help Megan around the house while her husband is off to Florida for work.  We have a busy agenda - getting ready for baby, a bit of spring cleaning, and a freezer full of freezer meals.

It is always good to have a goal.

The bad thing with age is that I can't even take a selfie without using my reading glasses to make sure I am pointing the camera correctly.......
Last time Ethan flew Phil was unable to find anything for Ethan to snack on at the airport that was celiac-friendly.  This time, however, I hit the jackpot.  Greek yogurt and fresh popped popcorn!!  Life was good this trip!

The grandkids have grown so much since Christmas!

Ethan was especially ready to see his "bros" again - Logan stopped by Friday night (no pics yet!) and Bryan came by on Saturday to hang out for a bit.

Ethan found Brian's box of hats from Russia and was in *love* with them.  It was perfect for his pretend dress up - of which the kids also took part.
Claire cleaning "Lord Farquad's" shoes.
When Bryan got off work I went to a church activity with the family and Ethan went to stay the night at Bryan's.  I will include pics of Elvis and B.B. King in another post.  Ethan was thrilled to be staying with his bro, especially since he was able to talk him into some Breyer's ice cream when they stopped by Walmart!  The weather is warm and it should be a great week!

My Many Adventures with "One-Click"

Santa brought Ethan an ipad for Christmas, just because Santa treats Ethan a lot better than his four older siblings (haha).

Ethan takes great care of the ipad and uses it to facetime his brothers (sometimes at 6:00am on a Saturday morning) and email.  He also loves Pandora, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. He manages to maneuver through all of the apps well and we have had *no* problems.

Until Saturday.

I opened my email to find a message from Amazon thanking me for my purchase of:

Hm.  I ran downstairs to find Ethan enjoying his new purchase of the "Lorax."  That was $9.99 out of my budget that I had not expected.  Of course I told him "No more movies!"

Sunday morning as we were getting ready for church, Ethan is ready and on the couch with his ipad.  I didn't think anything of it until later in the day when I was checking my email (I had to travel out of town for church and Phil and Ethan stayed in town).  I saw another email from Amazon thanking me for my purchase of:

What?!?!
 That's another $12.99!

I texted Phil and asked him to log Ethan off of Amazon until I could get home.  I was going to be broke if he didn't stop!  He was ruining my budget!!!!

Grrrrrrrr

It wasn't ten minutes later when I got a text from Ethan......."Your password?"

Despite it all, he still cracks me up.

When I got home I put a PIN on my account in order to buy anything.

Or so I thought........

Twenty minutes after getting home from school today I get an email.....thanking me for my purchase of:

for $19.99!!!

I immediately got online and the Amazon rep was very nice.  She refunded my money for ALL THREE movies.  She said the PIN doesn't work with G-rated movies, so we had to turn off the "one-click."  Then I didn't know how Ethan was buying them because you can't purchase movies off of the amazon app.  Come to find out, Ethan was getting in Safari and going to the Amazon website to purchase these movies.

He can be a problem-solver, I'm so proud :-)

I am happy to say the problem is now solved, my budget is back to normal, and Ethan was a little frustrated that he couldn't buy the next movie he wanted to see.  He asked me for the password to my account to pay, but I had to politely decline.  He is taking the rejection like a trooper and is back to playing Santa and Pirate.

Now we are back to N - O - R - M - A - L.....our normal, anyway.
